How green are you ?

Everyone wishes for a green tomorrow but, in order to have that, shouldn’t we start working on it today (there is nothing we can do about yesterday, unfortunately)? Also, a green planet requires for each one of its inhabitants to live green. So I am asking you: how green are you?

There are plenty of articles written about how to have a ‘green’ house or, even better, how to have an entire city ‘green’. But it all begins from the persons. If we manage to adapt our habits and our way of thinking to a more healthy way of living, then we might be able to get together in a big ‘green’ city. But this requires a bit of effort from each one of us.

How can we do this? Well…

Grow your own vegetables and, where possible, your own animals. Most of you will say “but I am living in an apartment and I have no backyard!” What about growing them in a pot? They only need soil, sun and water. Indeed, it requires a lot of work but the results are worthing. You get to eat some really healthy chemicals-free food, plus that it’s something you’ve grown with your own hands! And, for those who do have a backyard, you should try having more than pets in it, such as hens, ducks or other kind of animals. After your first natural chicken soup you’ll understand why all the work. There are risks involved, I admit, such as not being able to sacrifice a white duck because she has an incredible personality….or so I’ve heard J

Use alternative ways of producing energy and hot water – nowadays, thanks to the increasing number of inventions, we have many choices in this domain. We have the photovoltaic batteries to generate a part of the energy we consume (besides from being eco? IT’S FREE!). We also have an alternative to heating the water: the solar panels. There are social programs which entitles you to a subvention if you meet some requirements. It’s true that the initial investment can be significant, but you won’t regret it!

Get the most out of your water before throwing it back in the nature. I’m pretty sure that everyone is using fresh water for activities which don’t necessarily require fresh water. I’m not referring to cooking, for sure! If you think hard enough about this, you’ll certainly find some of those activities.

Sort the garbage before throwing it away. Some of it is recyclable and you make the process smoother this way. Also, since there are garbage baskets everywhere, please don’t throw your garbage on the street, out the car window, in the forest…and the list is really long.
