Ancient Ginko Biloba Trees and the Hiroshima Bomb

In today’s world you can find very difficult to come across examples of living fossil. Fossil living is a term used by scientists means that live animals and plants that are substantially unchanged from the fossilized remains of their predecessors. Some examples are currently being tested are those of alligator and crocodile which were presumably for about 200 million years. There is, however, that exceeds the crocodile and alligator, and that comes in the form of a species of tree called the Ginko Biloba, which says it has been for about 270 million years. What if it `s not surprising herself, would not have existed for 1000` s of years if it were not for human intervention.

Scientists Europeans believe that like the rest of the family Ginko, Ginko Biloba was also extinct. But all this was to change when Englebert Kaempfer, a German scientist and explorer traveled to Japan in 1691. For its shipment would often visit monasteries, and here in the gardens would discover Ginko Biloba trees have been grown for their medicinal properties. In 1693 Englebert Kaempfer left Japan to return to Europe and gave a number of seeds of the trees in Utrecht Ginko the botanical garden.

An important factor that has Ginko biloba tree, which has undoubtedly contributed to the fact that it is highly resistant to disease, and that because it was said that some trees have lived for over 2500 years. The Ginko Biloba is unknown in most parts of the world and more so in the wild. However, it has recently been found growing in the wild in Zhejiang, a province in China, but is now considers that there they were planted because of limited diversity in Zhejiang population.

The Ginko biloba tree is a hard and you can not really imagine how a tree so strong has to rely on humans to help make success. Even more-so if one considers the fact that there are four Ginko Biloba trees Hiroshima who survived the atomic bomb blast but only two kilometers away from the area of explosion.

One of the main factors that have enabled the Ginko biloba tree to be successful is that it is widely used in traditional oriental medicines. The future also looks good for the Ginko biloba tree as there are now claims that helps with the central nervous system, with research under way to assess its usefulness for Alzheimer `s sick.
